AMC program to teach diabetes self-management
SARANAC LAKE -- Beginning Wednesday, Adirondack Medical Center will offer its five-week comprehensive Diabetes Self -Management Education Program. The program meets for five consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Redfield Board Room at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. For questions or to register, call 897-2611. The Diabetes Self-Management Education Program was recently awarded re-accreditation from the American Diabetes Association for a three-year period. "This accreditation attests to the dedication, teamwork, and commitment of our teaching team, which has made the AMC Diabetes Self Management Education Program such a success," said Program Coordinator Sharon Sorgule.
Weight loss topic of community lecture
PLATTSBURGH -- "Successful Weight Loss is a Team Effort," a free community lecture, is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at Comfort Inn. The program is part of the CVPH Community Lecture Series, sponsored by the Foundation of CVPH. Discussed will be weight-loss options, including bariatric surgery and more traditional methods. Seating is limited, so call 562-7320 to reserve.
Essex County blood-pressure clinics continue
ELIZABETHTOWN -- The Essex County Public Health Department no longer offer blood-glucose checks but is continuing its blood-pressure clinics every month. The next one is at 11 a.m. Friday at 11 am at the Elizabethtown Nutrition Site at the Church of Good Shepherd. Other clinics this month will be at: 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Wilmington Nutrition Site at the Whiteface Methodist Church; 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Ticonderoga Nutrition Center at the United Methodist Church; and 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Crown Point Nutrition Site at the Knapp Building.
Second gynecologist joins Inter-Lakes program
TICONDEROGA -- Inter-Lakes Health has added a second doctor to provide obstetrics-gynecology services for its specialty-care program.
Dr. Noelle B. Nielsen began seeing patients at ILH's Moses-Ludington Hospital by appointment. Dr. Dane Larsen also offers OB-GYN services at Inter-Lakes Health.
"I am very pleased to be able to offer gynecological care to women of the community," said Nielsen in a press release. "As a resident of the area, I am aware of the need for local services and am excited to participate in the specialty-care program at Inter-Lakes Health."
A graduate of Adelphi University and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Nielsen has offices in Glens Falls and Saratoga Springs. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the Northeastern Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Medical Society of the State of New York, and the American Medical Association.
