Letter carriers holding food drive today
PLATTSBURGH -- The U.S. Postal Service will hold a Carriers' Food Drive today.
Customers are asked to place bags of non-perishable food items, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal, next to their mailbox before their letter carrier delivers the mail.
The letter carrier will pick it up and deliver it to local food banks.
For safety reasons, glass containers will not be accepted.
Bus to Disability Day in Albany planned
PLATTSBURGH -- The North Country Center for Independence is offering accessible bus transportation to the Assembly Disability Awareness Day in Albany on Monday.
The bus will be departing the NCCI parking lot on 102 Sharron Ave. at 7 a.m. and is scheduled to arrive back in Plattsburgh at 6 p.m. It is open to all.
The day will be packed with disability-issue training lectures and legislative visits with Assemblywomen Janet Duprey and Teresa Sayward and Sen. Betty Little.

Lunch will be provided by the Assembly, but it is recommended to bring extra money in case there are scheduling problems. Some of the legislative meetings will be taking place during the lunch hour.
People who attend must bring an up-to-date phote ID, which is mandatory in order to get into the Legislative Office Building where most of the day's events will take place.
Dannemora Village Court closed Tuesday
DANNEMORA -- There will be no Dannemora Village Court on Tuesday. All tickets for that day are returnable the following week.
Lake Placid School budget hearing set
LAKE PLACED -- The Lake Placid Central School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Wilmington Community Center.
Among the items on the agenda are the 2008-09 budget hearing and the appointment of a claims auditor.
The meeting is open to all.
