Alcohol-awareness workshop set for May 14
VALCOUR -- Parents and youth are invited to take part in a conversational workshop called "Start Talking Before They Start Drinking" from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, in the main house of Valcour Conference Center, 3712 Lake Shore Drive (off Route 9) south of Plattsburgh. The workshop will focus on prevention, awareness and education in regards to underage alcohol use and is open to anyone in grades 5 through 8 in the Plattsburgh City School District and their parents/guardians. Dinner will be provided at the free event, which is sponsored by the Plattsburgh Campus-Community Partnership, the Eastern Adirondack Health Care Network and the SUNY Plattsburgh Center for Student Health and Psychological Services. Children's art on display at mall
PLATTSBURGH -- As part of the Month of the Young Child, a Children's Art Exhibit is on display at the center of the Champlain Centre mall (near the Gizmo) from May 1 to 10. Call the Child Care Coordinating Council at 561-4999 for more information.
Play group to teach encouraging early literary skills
PLATTSBURGH -- Family Connections Resource Center is hosting a Mountain Lake PBS Ready to Learn workshop called "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, May 20, for families and caregivers of young children. The interactive play group teaches participants how to support the development of early literacy skills. Children will make a grass-seed caterpillar to take home.
