2 seek Crown Point School Board openings

CROWN POINT -- Three seats are open but only two people are running for the Crown Point Central School Board.

That means the third seat will be filled by write-in votes in the school election from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 20.

Incumbents Jacalyn Popp and Kevin Gadway are running for re-election, but incumbent Julie Morrissey has chosen not to seek another term.

Superintendent Shari Brannock said the three highest vote getters will get the three seats.

Voting will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the school lobby, and from 1:30 to 8 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Franklin County gets funds for fire trailer

MALONE -- Franklin County Emergency Services has been awarded a $35,375 grant through the Department of Homeland Security FEMA 2008 Fire Prevention and Safety grant program.

The funds will be used to purchase a 35-foot fire-prevention and safety trailer that will be used to support existing programs in schools that are run by local fire departments throughout Franklin County.

The trailer features a mobile classroom with seating for 25 students, an in-ceiling PowerPoint projector and screen and adequate storage areas to carry a wide range of teaching tools used for fire prevention and safety training.

Tupper Lake Revitalization group to meet

TUPPER LAKE -- The Town and Village of Tupper Lake and the Tupper Lake Revitalization Committee will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the Wild Center.
