PERU — A Morrisonville man was injured when he crashed his car on June 6, police said.

A few minutes before midnight, Joshua B. Johnston, 35, of Morrisonville, was driving a maroon 1998 Chevrolet Prism northbound on Calkins Road in the Town of Peru when his car went off of the western side of the roadway into a ditch, striking a culvert and the gate of the driveway of 619 Calkins Road, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Johnston suffered a broken leg and cuts to his body and his vehicle was badly damaged, the Sheriff’s Department said.

He was taken to CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Further investigation revealed Johnston was allegedly driving while intoxicated and had open containers of alcoholic beverages inside the car, the release said.

He was charged with misdemeanor DWI; failure to keep right, a violation, and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, a violation.

On June 7, Johnston was processed at the Sheriff’s Department and issued court appearance tickets.

He is scheduled to appear in Peru Town Court later this month.

More charges may be filed depending on laboratory test results, police said.
