Police Log: Jan. 31, 2013 — Felony arrest

PLATTSBURGH — A former SUNY Plattsburgh student was arrested Tuesday for allegedly hitting a man in the head with a beer bottle.

The incident happened near Woodstock bar on Margaret Street in the City of Plattsburgh at about 2 a.m. Oct. 14, 2012, Plattsburgh City Police Lt. Scott Beebie said.

A city police officer was flagged down by the victim, who was bleeding from his head and right ear area, Beebie said.

He told officers he was struck in the head with a beer bottle during an altercation with another man.

Police identified Michael Melville Jr., 21, of Troy as a suspect, obtained a warrant for his arrest and contacted the City of Troy Police Department for assistance, as Melville had returned to Troy for winter break, Beebie said.

Melville turned himself in to Troy police and he was retrieved by Plattsburgh City Police, Beebie said.

Melville was charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Melville was arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court Wednesday morning and taken to Clinton County Jail.
