Suspended sentence for North Bangor man

---- — MALONE — A North Bangor man who tipped off suspected drug offenders while serving on a Franklin County grand jury was given a suspended jail sentence.

Paul N. Jock Jr., 21, of Lee Road pleaded guilty this week to unlawful grand-jury disclosure and was sentenced to three months in County Jail by Judge Robert G. Main Jr.

The sentence was suspended, but Jock was ordered serve five years of probation and pay a $1,500 fine.

He was arrested inside the grand-jury room on May 16, two weeks after State Police learned Jock had called people under surveillance in drug cases to tell them they were under investigation.

As soon as police learned the information, they contacted District Attorney Derek Champagne, who changed the order of cases being presented to the grand-jury panel so no others involving drugs were discussed.

The DA said at the time that Jock’s actions could have been deadly if the drug case had involved gang activity or organized crime where innocent bystanders and children could have been harmed.
