PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh woman was charged with welfare fraud Thursday.
“This was a lengthy investigation involving the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office and us dating back to 2009,” Plattsburgh City Police Lt. Scott Beebie said.
The alleged criminal activity happened between January 2009 and August 2012, Beebie said.
Linda Latour, 64, was charged with third-degree welfare fraud, a felony.
Latour received more than $12,000 in social security benefits that were meant for her husband, who had died, Beebie said.
Latour also did not report this income to the Plattsburgh Housing Authority from which she receives housing assistance, he said.
After her arrest, Latour was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 18, Beebie said.
Plattsburgh City Police Officer Carmen Rotella investigated the case, Beebie said.
