PLATTSBURGH — An Altona man was caught in a traffic stop, which led to his arrest at about 10 p.m. Tuesday on Route 374 in the Town of Plattsburgh.
Juan Rivera, 41, was stopped for having no plate lamps on a 2003 Pontiac Montana, a minivan, according to State Police.
Rivera was charged with driving while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content of .14 percent, police said. It was a felony DWI because of two prior convictions within the last 10 years, police said.
He had a revoked New York driver’s license due to the previous DWIs, police said, adding that he had switched plates on his vehicle and was drinking Natural Ice beer inside his minivan.
In addition to the DWI, he was charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a felony.
Rivera was ticketed for drinking alcohol in a vehicle, no plate lamps, moving from lane unsafely, unregistered motor vehicle and improper license plates.
He was arraigned in the Peru Town Court and sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash and $10,000 bond.
Rivera is to appear in Plattsburgh Town Court today at 4 p.m.
