PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man was charged Jan. 16 with grand larceny.
On Dec. 15, 2013, David A. Smoot, 24, drove to a NYSEG storage facility on Route 22 in the Town of Plattsburgh and stole wire from the company, State Police said.
A construction supervisor saw Smoot’s Chevrolet Cavalier on the property and later noticed copper and aluminum wire was missing, police said.
The supervisor recorded Smoot’s license plate number and gave it to troopers.
Smoot took the wire, valued at $12,000, and sold it to Lyman’s Salvage on Flanagan Drive in Plattsburgh, police said.
He was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, and was arraigned in Plattsburgh Town Court.
Smoot was sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
