PLATTSBURGH — An Upstate Correctional Facility inmate in Malone faces two felony charges.
Alex Velez, 29, was found to allegedly be in possession of prison contraband in June after being processed by officers, according to Plattsburgh-based State Police. Police said after a trip to the prison hospital, it was found that Velez had hidden two scalpel blades inside the fingers of a plastic glove inside a body cavity. Velez was arrested at about 8:50 a.m. Thursday and charged with first-degree criminal possession of prison contraband and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. After being processed at the State Police barracks in Plattsburgh, Velez was transported back to prison, where he will await future court action.
