MOOERS — A barn at 215 Eddy Road was destroyed by fire Sunday.
The barn, which was used for hay and lumber storage, was substantially engulfed in flames as firefighters arrived just before 11:30 a.m.
The amount of hay and lumber in the barn is not known at this time. No animals were housed there.
Mooers Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by a Clinton County Mutual Aid Tanker Task Force, including trucks from Ellenburg Depot, Altona, Chazy, Rouses Point and Champlain. Also helping at the fire was a crew from Hemmingford, Quebec, and West Chazy firefighters stood by at the Mooers station.
Firefighters were able to save an attached building, which Mooers Fire Chief Raymond Phair said was either a shed or a smaller barn.
An old Dodge pickup truck near the barn was destroyed in the fire. In addition, a grass fire was started by the blaze, but the Mooers and Hemmingford brush trucks were able to put it out.
As to the cause of the fire, Phair said, “We’re not entirely sure yet, but we’ve pretty much narrowed it down to old electrical.” Ownership of the barn was uncertain Sunday evening.
Phair also said that the hay and lumber in the barn made the fire more difficult to fight.
