Police Log: Nov. 12, 2012 — Transformer fire

PLATTSBURGH — A small explosion and subsequent fire within a transformer at the Veteran’s Lane substation caused a brief power outage Saturday night that affected customers in both the City of Plattsburgh and the nearby Town of Plattsburgh, including Champlain Centre mall. The Plattsburgh City Fire Department responded to the call at 10:15 p.m. Firefighters were back in their station about 30 minutes later. According to the Plattsburgh Municipal Lighting Department workers, who also responded to the scene, the outage was a temporary blip that barely affected customers. However, it is unknown how long the outage outside the city lasted or how many people were affected. Neither the state or city police reported any problems as a result of the power failure.
