CHATEAUGAY — The cause of a two-car accident that killed two men Monday night remains under investigation, police said.
Lloyd E. Taylor, 49, of Clifton Park and Demetrios Syrros, 43, of Ontario, Canada, both died, said State Police Troop B Public Information Officer Trooper Jennifer Fleishman.
Taylor was driving a 2013 Nissan Frontier pickup truck eastbound on Route 11 in the Town of Chateaugay near Cassidy Road, and Syrros was moving westbound in a 2005 GMC Jimmy, she said.
The pickup and sport-utility vehicle collided head-on, Fleishman said, and Taylor and Syrros were pronounced dead at the site of the accident.
They were the only occupants of their vehicles, and no one else was injured, she said.
Authorities closed a stretch of Route 11 for about five hours and traffic was redirected so the State Police Troop B Bureau of Criminal Investigation could collect evidence and begin its investigation, she said.
Initial information showed no evidence that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, Fleishman said.
Franklin County Dispatch could not say who reported the accident, but Fleishman said the call was likely made via 911 and came in at 7:50 p.m.
There were no known witnesses to the crash, Fleishman said.
Autopsies were scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, she said.
