AKWESASNE — Two Akwesasne residents were charged Monday in connection with an alleged marijuana-growing operation.
The St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department served a search warrant at 15 Cree Road in Akwesasne, the residence of Stacey Smoke, and found 11.215 pounds of marijuana, 16 marijuana plants and other devices that are used with indoor growing operations, according to a news release from the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe.
Smoke and Cheyenne M. Ransom were each charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
They were arraigned in Bombay Town Court.
Smith was sent to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
Random was released and is under supervision, the release said.
Assisting Tribal Police were the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office, the Franklin County Border Narcotics Task Force, the State Police Narcotics Unit and K-9 and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Drug Enforcement Agency.
