---- — PLATTSBURGH &mdash. A Rouses Point man was convicted of charges associated with unemployment fraud.
Nathan Arruda, 34, was originally charged with third-degree grand larceny. first-degree falsifying business records. and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, according to a press release from the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office.
The charges were based on allegations that Arruda stole $3,748.50 from the New York State Department of Labor by falsely reporting that he was unemployed when he was employed at USA International Express LLC, according to the release.
On Jan. 30, Arruda pleaded guilty to first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, a felony.
He was sentenced Feb. 26 to one year in jail but was conditionally discharged on the conditions that he pay a fine, provide a DNA sample and remain arrest free for three years.
Arruda paid the $3,748.50 in upfront restitution to the state Department of Labor.
Assistant District Attorney Jason Marx prosecuted the case. Arruda was represented by attorney Matthew Favro.
