CHAMPLAIN — A man from Manchester, Conn., was arrested as a fugitive from justice Monday morning.
Clinton County Sheriff’s Department deputies, with the assistance from the United States Border Patrol in Champlain, arrested William B. Newton, 50, according to a Clinton County Sheriff’s Department news release.
It was determined that Newton was wanted by the West Hartford, Conn., Police Department for an outstanding warrant for first-degree sexual assault for an alleged knife point rape that occurred in 1996, the release said.
Newton was arraigned in the Town of Champlain Court as a fugitive from justice and was remanded to Clinton County Correctional Facility pending extradition to Connecticut.
