JAY — A fire damaged a single-family home here Sunday morning.
Report of a blaze at 869 Stickney Bridge Road came in at about 10:43 a.m., according to Essex County Dispatch.
Crews from Jay and AuSable Forks fire departments responded to the scene and were able to contain the flames to the kitchen area of the two-story residence while Upper Jay Fire Department stood by.
The home’s cook stove and some of its kitchen cabinets were destroyed, according to Jay Fire Chief Glenn Williams, and the living-room area suffered severe smoke and heat damage.
Crews stayed on scene for about an hour and a half, he said, extinguishing flames and cleaning up water to avoid damage to the hardwood floors.
The residents of the dwelling were continuing clean-up efforts Sunday afternoon, Williams noted, and planned to remain in the home that night. However, he said, they had family nearby to stay with if need be.
Both gas and electricity were involved in the blaze, Williams said; though, it was hard to determine which was responsible.
The cause and origin of the flames were under investigation, he noted, but were not suspicious.
No injuries resulted from the incident, Williams added, and the home was insured.
