Correction officer charged

MALONE — A correction officer is charged with official misconduct and multiple other charges for allegedly smuggling drugs into Franklin Correctional Facility.

Ricky J. Hance, 51, of Constable was charged Aug. 30 with official misconduct, second-degree receiving rewards for official misconduct, second-degree introduction of contraband into a prison, first-degree prison contraband and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Franklin County District Attorney Derek Champagne said the State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Inspector General’s Office contacted him weeks ago about the case as it began its internal investigation.

Once that was completed, that office turned what it learned over to Champagne for further action.

The DA said Hance “allegedly introduced to the facility drugs and other materials,” but he declined to name the type of drug or other alleged contraband involved.

Hance “has fully cooperated with the arrest and admitted his alleged conduct, and I feel we can find a way to resolve this,” Champagne said.

“The IG’s Office moved quickly so no contraband was introduced to the facility this time,” he said.

Hance, whose salary was $53,994 in 2012, was arraigned in Bangor Town Court, taken to County Jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 insurance bond. He was released over the weekend after posting bail.
