LAKE PLACID — A Lake Placid man was charged Thursday with welfare fraud.
The Essex County Sheriff’s Department served Glen Haran Jr., 26, with a criminal summons to appear in Elizabethtown Town Court on April 3, according to a news release from the Essex County Department of Social Services Welfare Fraud Unit.
Haran is charged with first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, a felony, and two counts of fifth-degree welfare fraud, a misdemeanor, the Welfare Fraud Unit said.
He allegedly did not report his employment and wages to the Department of Social Services and he received $1,234 in benefits to which he was not entitled, the release said.
