---- — PERU — Troopers in Plattsburgh said they have solved a burglary case from more than a year ago with help from the State Police crime lab. In early September 2011, Sweet Treats ice cream stand in Peru was burglarized, with several pounds of ice cream and several boxes of ice cream cones being stolen. During their investigation, troopers dusted for fingerprints and obtained at least one usable print, according to police. Recently the State Police lab in Albany contacted local BCI investigators, confirming that they had matched the print in the state database. Troopers subsequently arrested Brennen D. Smith, 20, of Keeseville and charged hime with third-degree burglary, a felony. Smith was arraigned in the town of Peru court by Town Justice James Kirby. He was sent to the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. He will reappear in Peru court on Oct. 2.
