PLATTSBURGH — As a result of DNA evidence, a man was arrested and charged with a burglary that was committed a year ago.
John S. Hunt, 35, of Plattsburgh, was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony. The charge stemmed from a burglary last September at Dame’s Motor Sports on Route 3.
Investigator Matthew Dandrow said that the burglar broke a window to get in, cutting himself on the glass and leaving blood behind.
“We sent the blood to our lab, and it was a DNA match to John Hunt,” Dandrow said.
However, by the time the match came back, Hunt was already in prison; Dandrow said that his arrest had followed a parole violation.
Hunt’s prison sentence ended on Friday, and he was transported back to Plattsburgh and arrested in connection with the burglary at Dame’s Motor Sports.
Hunt was arraigned in Town of Plattsburgh Court before Judge Joyce that day. He was sent to County Jail in lieu of $5,000 or $10,000 bond.
