Police: Pizza Palace waitress stole funds

PLATTSBURGH — A former waitress at the Pizza Palace in Plattsburgh is accused of stealing more than $2,000 from her employer.

Michelle LaFountain, 41, was charged Friday with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, after an investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department revealed she stole about $2,200 from the restaurant between November 2013 and the first week of January 2014, according to a news release from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.

LaFountain was arraigned in Plattsburgh Town Court and sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

She was released Saturday after posting cash bail, the Sheriff’s Department said.

“It was a sad situation,” said Scott Wright, one of the restaurant’s owners, adding that LaFountain is no longer employed at the Pizza Palace. “It was extremely upsetting for us as employers and we are more than ready to put this behind us. It certainly was an eye-opening experience.

“We now have a video surveillance system as well as burglar alarms as we have been robbed before.”
