MALONE — A man from Newark, N.J., is accused of driving a stolen bus.
According to Malone-based State Police, Charles J. Brown, 49, was stopped by a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit on Saturday morning at the Upstate Correctional Facility on Bare Hill Road in Malone.
Police said Brown was driving a charter bus carrying passengers from New York City to visit inmates at the prison.
Upon stopping the bus, according to police, law-enforcement officials discovered that it had been reported stolen from New Jersey, where Brown was also wanted for a probation violation.
He was arrested at 8:30 a.m. as a fugitive from justice and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.
Brown was also charged with two infractions for being an unlicensed operator and having improper plates.
He was arraigned in Malone Town Court and remanded to Franklin County Jail.
The date Brown is scheduled to reappear in court was not available Sunday night.
