CHAMPLAIN — A Champlain man was arrested Sunday after he was caught allegedly driving drunk for the third time in 10 years, police said.
Joel E. Laurin, 26, was observed traveling northbound on Stetson Road shortly before 2:30 a.m. in the Town of Champlain when he failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Stetson Road and Route 9B, Chazy-based Police said.
Laurin failed sobriety tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated with two previous convictions within 10 years, a felony; aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony; driving without a license, an infraction; illegal signal while parked, an infraction; and failure to stop at a stop sign, an infraction.
Laurin was arraigned in Champlain Town Court and sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond.
A preliminary felony hearing will be held at 5 p.m. today.
