CHESTERFIELD — A Keeseville man was charged Jan. 16 with possession of stolen property.
On Oct. 8, 2012, Keith A. McCray, 23, had allegedly sold some copper and plumbing fittings to a scrap yard in Keeseville, Plattsburgh-based State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Investigator Larry Cragle said.
The employee working at the scrap yard was suspicious, Cragle said, and contacted State Police on Oct. 18, 2012, according to a State Police blotter entry.
Trooper Marc Felio interviewed the employee and determined that McCray had sold the materials, he said.
In a later interview, McCray told Felio he had permission to sell the materials because he was an employee of the person who owns them, Cragle said.
After the owner of the company returned from Florida and did an inventory, it was determined that the materials were missing and that McCray was not authorized to sell them, he said.
McCray was arrested at the Rip Van Winkle motel on Jan. 16 and was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property valued at more than $3,000, a felony.
He was sent to Essex County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
His court date was unknown Tuesday.
