LEWIS — Police say a distracted driver was taken to the hospital Monday after her car overturned off the Northway.
Lewis-based State Police were called to the northbound lanes of Interstate 87 at about 4:40 p.m. after Elisabete Fernandes’s vehicle veered off the highway and overturned in an embankment.
According to police reports, Fernandes, 58, said she was distracted by her GPS when her vehicle drifted from the left lane of traffic. Fernandes attempted to regain control of the vehicle, but, police said, she overcorrected, causing it to spin around and go back off the road, where it overturned.
Fernandes was taken to Elizabethtown Community Hospital after the crash. A condition report on her status there was not immediately available Tuesday night.
