PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man was arrested May 6 on a warrant for allegedly strangling his girlfriend until she lost consciousness in October 2012, police said.
Larry Smith, 41, turned himself in to police at 11:30 a.m. May 6, Plattsburgh City Police said.
At about 10 p.m. Oct. 4, 2012, Smith was arguing on the phone with the mother of his children and his girlfriend became upset, police said.
After Smith hung up, he and his girlfriend began arguing, police said.
The argument escalated and Smith allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the throat, choking her and restricting her breathing, said police.
She fought back in self-defense but was eventually rendered unconscious, police said.
Smith’s girlfriend went to tell police about the incident the next day and declined medical treatment, police said.
Smith was charged with second-degree strangulation, a felony.
He was arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court.
No further information was available Thursday.
