TUPPER LAKE — One person was charged with prohibited sale of alcohol to an underage person as part of an underage drinking sting in Franklin County.
According to a State Police news release, an underage volunteer was sent into 12 businesses to attempt to buy alcohol. The initiative found 11 of the businesses were in compliance with the law.
Majeed C. Maroun, 80, at Ray’s Discount Liquor Store in Tupper Lake was charged with one count of prohibited sale of alcohol under the age of 21, a misdemeanor.
When reached for comment about the charge, a manager at the store said she had “taken care of” the situation but did not go into detail.
Maroun was issued an appearance ticket to appear at the Tupper Lake Village Court.
The State Police were assisted in the sting by the Saranac Lake Police Department.
