---- — PLATTSBURGH — Three people were arrested on felony charges after checks went missing from a local business.

Sophia Patterson, 25, of Plattsburgh, Ashley L. Schenk, 27, of Dannemora, and Shawn L. Gumlaw, 30, of Keeseville, were arrested in connection with forged checks that were allegedly stolen from the Plattsburgh Housing Outlet after someone from the company alerted Plattsburgh-based State Police at about 8:45 a.m. Sept. 24.

Gumlaw, a former employee at the outlet, eventually admitted to police that he stole multiple blank checks from the business. Along with Patterson, Gumlaw’s ex-girlfriend, and Schenk, the trio cashed at least four checks at a local bank and at Richard’s Bait & Tackle. Police said each check was in the amount of about $1,000.

The three individuals were arrested at different times and locations Sept. 28.

Patterson has been charged with two counts second-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony, and two counts petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

Schenk was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and three counts second-degree possession of a forged instrument, both felonies.

Gumlaw faces a third-degree burglary charge, third-degree grand larceny and four counts second-degree possession of a forged instrument, all felonies.

They were arraigned in the Plattsburgh City Court.

Both Schenk and Gumlaw are currently in Clinton County Jail awaiting further court action.
