Authorities: Meth arrests net three

SARANAC LAKE — A Gabriels man was charged with two felonies after he tried to grab back meth from an officer, police said.

And Tuesday evening, authorities converged on a home at 1867 Alder Bend Road in Altona, investigating a possible meth lab.

“This is a husband-and-wife team,” Clinton County Sheriff Dave Favro said, expressing frustration over the increasing number of methamphetamine incidents.

MORNING ARREST

Shortly before 7 a.m., Saranac Lake Police Patrol Officer Casey Reardon stopped a pickup truck driven by Peter Yaglou, 54, for not having a front license plate, Police Chief Bruce Nason said.

After Reardon found that Yaglou had methamphetamine in his possession, Yaglou attempted to grab the drugs from Reardon and turned to flee, according a Saranac Lake Police Department press release.

Reardon was able to apprehend Yaglou within a few steps, according to the release.

The meth was separated into three bags of about a gram each, said Nason. Each gram of meth has a street value of about $100.

Between three and four grams of marijuana were also found in Yaglou’s possession, he said.

The drugs would be sent to a New York State Police lab to obtain a certified weight.

Yaglou was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor; and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in Saranac Lake Village Court and sent to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond.

Yaglou’s court date was not available Tuesday.

The investigation was ongoing, and more charges were pending, Nason said.

EVENING INVESTIGATION

Favro said Tuesday’s raid in Altona resulted from a tip gained during an interview.

“We secured a warrant from Town of Altona Court,” he said.
