---- — NORTH ELBA — A Bloomingdale man was arrested Sunday for allegedly damaging property in a courthouse after he was arraigned for another crime.
At about 2:35 a.m., Monroe F. Gladd, 35, allegedly kicked the front of a soda vending machine while police were escorting him out of the North Elba Courthouse, Ray Brook-based State Police said.
Gladd was intoxicated at the time, police said.
He was taken to Essex County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond.
He was being arraigned on a charge of fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, stemming from an incident the day before where he and his girlfriend were driving in a car and he allegedly broke her cellphone, police said.
For damaging the vending machine, Gladd was charged with third-degree criminal mischief of property valued at more than $250, a felony.
Gladd is scheduled to reappear in court at 6 p.m. May 6.
