Plattsburgh man charged with stalking again

PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man has been charged with stalking, and not for the first time.

Nicholas Belvedere, 32, had been looking at a 23-year-old woman through the windows of her first-floor Bailey Avenue apartment in the City of Plattsburgh on July 6, said Plattsburgh City Police Detective Jarrod Trombley.

“She woke up and saw Belvedere standing outside her bedroom window,” he said.

The woman reported the incident to emergency authorities at about 4 a.m., he said.

Police arrived to find Belvedere in the driveway of the multiple apartment house, the detective said.

That was the only incident involving Belvedere and the alleged victim, and the investigation has been completed on the case, Trombley said.

Arrested on July 11, Belvedere was charged with third- and fourth-degree stalking, both misdemeanors. He was arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court before Judge Mark Rogers and was sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

He remained in Clinton County Jail Friday and is due back in City Court at 10 p.m. on July 24.

Belvedere was charged with third-degree stalking because of his history with that crime, Trombley said.

In 2008, he stalked two 12-year-old girls as they walked to and from Stafford Middle School in the City of Plattsburgh.

The girls told police a maroon-colored vehicle was following them and that the man behind the wheel had offered to give them a ride.

After one of the girls was able to provide police with a license plate number, detectives trailed Belvedere for the next few days as he slowly circled the area around Oak Street.

When police pulled him over, Belvedere admitted to past lewd behavior.

Fewer than two weeks before he was to go on trial for that crime, for which he was charged with two felony counts of second-degree stalking and two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child, he admitted his guilt.
