Police log: Oct. 2, 2013 — Felony arrest

PLATTSBURGH — A New York City man was charged with drug possession Sunday after he was allegedly found in possession of cocaine.

Early Sunday morning, Plattsburgh City Police officers were dispatched to the area of Margaret Street near Sailly Avenue for a report of two men arguing with a women near the roadway, Plattsburgh City Police said.

The caller also reported hearing something that sounded like gunshots, police said.

Officers found two men wearing backpacks and matching the description the caller provided crossing from Margaret Street onto Sailly Avenue, police said.

Orraine McKoy III, 27, told police he didn’t have any identification and upon further questioning produced a bag of marijuana, handing it to one of the officers, police said.

After he consented to a search of his backpack, McKoy became visibly nervous and fled after he was told he was under arrest, police said.

McKoy ran about 100 feet before police apprehended him, police said.

The other man was not charged, police said.

In McKoy’s backpack were 78 small baggies containing cocaine as well as a quantity of marijuana, police said.

McKoy was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation; and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

McKoy was arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court and was taken to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
