PERU — A Plattsburgh man was charged with a felony Saturday.
Joel M. Christian, 25, was allegedly driving while intoxicated when he hit a guide rail off of Bowen Road in Saranac and left behind his bumper which included his plate, State Police reported.
Police said he then left the site of the accident, driving his 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier to Maplefields on Bear Swamp Road in Peru.
Police were able to identify his vehicle at Maplefields from the plate that was left behind and he was arrested at 8:42 a.m.
Christian was charged with driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction within the past 10 years, a felony; operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent, a misdemeanor; unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation; and leaving the scene of a property damage accident and moving from the lane unsafely, both infractions.
He was arraigned in Peru Town Court before Justice Kirby and remanded to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond.
He is set to reappear in Peru Town Court at 2 p.m. on July 22.
