DANNEMORA — Two local residents were injured in a one-car accident on Route 374 Saturday.
At around 3:45 a.m., Dannemora resident Bert Drake, 26, was driving northwest on Route 374 when he fell asleep at the wheel and went off the shoulder, striking the guide rail, State Police reported.
He then proceeded to travel northwest down an embankment and struck a tree, according to police.
Drake and a passenger, Merrill resident Tonya Murphy, 29, were trapped inside the Ford F-150 for a short time.
Lyon Mountain and Saranac EMS responded.
Drake was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington via Life Flight for serious internal injuries, police said.
The hospital said he was in stable condition Sunday.
Murphy was transported to CVPH, where she was treated for minor injuries and later released.
No information about tickets was available Sunday evening.
