Rent money draws attack

MALONE — A Franklin County man who attacked an acquaintance will spend time behind bars, as will his conspirator, who stole the friend’s rent money.

Zachary A. Cook, 24, and Robert Mulverhill Jr., 26, both of Malone, knew a friend of theirs, Donald Burdash, had his rent money on him, so they went to his apartment on July 1 to steal it, according to prosecutors in the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office.

Cook was sentenced this week by County Court Judge Robert G. Main Jr. to six months in County Jail and five years of probation for third-degree robbery.

He was indicted on charges of second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Cook was also ordered to pay $516 in restitution.

Mulverhill, a resident of Milwaukee Street, was sentenced last month by Main to three years in state prison for second-degree strangulation.

He had been indicted by a grand jury on charges of second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
