Dannemora man arrested after allegedly assaulting daughters

SARANAC — A Dannemora man was charged with a felony and several misdemeanors after he allegedly assaulted his two daughters at their home.

The alleged crime was reported to State Police at 9:18 p.m. Nov. 23, according to a State Police blotter entry.

John McIntyre, 44, went to his family’s home on Cold Brook Road in the Town of Saranac and assaulted his daughters, ages 16 and 18, said State Police Troop B Public Information Officer Trooper Jennifer Fleishman.

The Town of Saranac Rescue Squad responded to the residence, but both teens declined medical attention, she said.

The Saranac Town Court had previously put orders of protection in place for the alleged victims, she said.

McIntyre’s wife was in the home at the time of the incident, Fleishman said.

He frequents the Cold Brook Road home, but lives on Cook Street in Dannemora, she said.

McIntyre was arrested at 10:15 p.m. that night, according to the blotter entry.

He was charged with one felony, first-degree criminal contempt, and four misdemeanors, second-degree criminal contempt, two counts of third-degree assault, second-degree criminal trespassing and endangering the welfare of a child.

McIntyre was arraigned in Saranac Town Court and was sent to the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond, Fleishman said.

He remained in jail Friday, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.

McIntyre has been a New York state corrections officer for almost 16 years, according to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS).

His employment status remained “active,” a DOCCS spokesperson said on Friday.

The state agency acknowledges that the charges are pending court action and said DOCCS is working to determine McIntyre’s future employment status.
