WAVERLY — A St. Regis Falls man was arrested Dec. 20 for allegedly stealing a handgun and medication from a residence in St. Regis Falls.

Wilbur C. Bailey, 29, incurred additional charges while he was in Franklin County Jail for the alleged burglary of 42 Spring St. on the morning of Dec. 2.

On the evening of Dec. 2, the owner of a residence located at 42 Spring St. reported to police that a handgun, some prescription medication and vehicle parts were stolen from his home that morning, police said.

The owner’s family members had recovered the handgun from Bailey and returned it to him, police said.

Bailey and the owner’s family members were acquainted, police said.

Bailey was arrested at 10:43 p.m. that night and was charged with second-degree burglary of a dwelling, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in Waverly Town Court and sent to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond, police said.

Then on Dec. 20, while Bailey was in jail, he was arrested again and charged with second-degree criminal contempt for disobeying the court, a misdemeanor, police said.

Bailey had allegedly dropped some of the property he allegedly took from the Spring Street residence at the house, violating an order of protection, police said.

He was arraigned in Waverly Town Court and returned to jail in lieu of $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond, police said.

Bailey’s court information was not available Tuesday.
