BURKE — A Burke man was injured Friday while extinguishing a fire in his garage, authorities said.
At 9:19 a.m., the Burke Volunteer Fire Department was called to 564 County Route 24 in Burke for a report of a structure fire, according to Franklin County Dispatch.
Firefighters arrived to find the fire had been extinguished by the property’s owner, Roy Collins, said Fire Chief Gene Nesbitt.
But Collins had sustained burns and was taken to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone and was later transferred to Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, Vt., according to a nursing supervisor at Alice Hyde.
Collins’s condition was not available Friday.
The fire’s cause remained under investigation Friday, Nesbitt said.
The chief said Collins has insurance on the garage.
Responding to the address as mutual aid were fire departments from Constable and Malone.
The Burke Volunteer Fire Department was back in service at 10:21 a.m., according to County Dispatch.
