PLATTSBURGH — Two men were arrested on charges related to the theft of a check.
Philip A. Sharpe, 19, of Chateaugay, who was an employee at Salerno’s Plastics in Plattsburgh at the time of the incident, allegedly stole a payroll check for $387.33 from a co-worker, according to Plattsburgh-based State Police.
Sharpe gave the check to Michael T. Swinyer, 17, of Malone, who allegedly forged a signature on it sometime between Sept. 20 and Oct. 4 and cashed it at Community Bank in Malone on Oct. 4, police said.
Salerno’s Plastics reported the incident Oct. 11 after the employee whose check was stolen requested another, police said.
None of the money was recovered, police said.
Sharpe and Swinyer were interviewed by police and admitted to their roles in the crime, police said.
Sharpe was arrested Nov. 14 and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor. Sharpe was arraigned in Plattsburgh Town Court Nov. 27 and released on his own recognizance.
Swinyer was arrested Dec. 7 and charged with second-degree forgery of a deed, will or contract, a felony. Swinyer was arraigned in Constable Town Court on Dec. 7 and released on his own recognizance, police said.
