---- — CHAMPLAIN — A man has been arrested after allegedly using a hunting knife to damage a car that was on display outside a local church.

Matthew M. Clar, 18, of Champlain was arrested at about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday.

He was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, for property damage greater than $250. Clar was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

Charges stemmed from an incident involving a new car that was on display as part of a raffle. The car, a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic, had been donated to St. Mary Parish on Church Street in Champlain by Parker Chevrolet. The car was on public display, and on Sunday, April 14, damage to the car was noticed and police were contacted.

An investigation led to the arrest of Clar that Wednesday.

Clar had allegedly damaged the hood of the donated car with a hunting knife.

He was arraigned in Champlain Town Court and remanded to County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash or $3,000 bond.
