Police Log: March 29, 2013 — Felony arrests

SARANAC LAKE — A third arrest has been made in an alleged March 18 Saranac Lake burglary.

On Tuesday evening, an 18-year-old Saranac Lake man, who was granted youthful offender status, was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor, according to a press release from the Saranac Lake Police Department.

The youthful offender was arraigned and sent to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $500 cash or $1,000 bond, police said in the release.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department did not have the incarceration status of the 18-year-old.

The teen and at least one other person allegedly stole at least 14 bottles of liquor from a Saranac Lake business in the early morning hours of March 18, police said in the release.

The alcohol is valued at about $400, Saranac Lake Police Chief Bruce Nason said.

The burglary arrests stem from a stolen car investigation, although the two incidents are not related, Nason said.

Also charged with third-degree burglary and petit larceny in connection with the burglary case are Joshua P. Whitty, 23, of Saranac Lake and a 17-year-old youthful offender, who was also charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, for his alleged part in the car theft.

The 17-year-old posted $500 cash bail and Whitty was still being held Wednesday at Franklin County jail in lieu of $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.

All three men will appear in Saranac Lake Village Court at a later date.

The investigation is ongoing.
