Tupper man admits to strangle charge

MALONE — A Tupper Lake man admitted in Franklin County Court that he put a Sunmount Developmental Disabilities Service employee in a choke hold last fall.

Christopher Chambers, 25, pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted strangulation, a felony, before County Court Judge Robert G. Main Jr.

He is to be sentenced May 20.

Chambers was indicted in January by a grand jury and charged with second-degree strangulation, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and third-degree assault.

A client at Sunmount on Sept. 25, 2013, he was being escorted to a time-out area by two employees when he grabbed one of the escorts, applied a tight hold around the person’s throat and applied pressure until the worker nearly lost consciousness.

The employee, who was not identified, was treated by Sunmount medical staff and returned to work that day.
