— PLATTSBURGH — A two-car motor vehicle accident on Beekman Street sent one person to the hospital for treatment.
Plattsburgh City Police were called to the accident at the intersection of Beekman and Cornelia streets at about 1:38 a.m. Oct. 9. According to police reports, a white Chevrolet City Taxi sedan driven by Valentin Yanez, 59, of Plattsburgh struck a utility pole after a red Pontiac driven by Coty Allen, 22, of Plattsburgh tried to beat the traffic light, causing the accident.
Passengers in both cars were not injured.
Yanez was transported to CVPH Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries, police said, and released.
Police said Allen allegedly appeared to be under the influence of alcohol following the crash and failed to pass field sobriety tests.
He faces misdemeanor DWI charges and was released on an appearance ticket.
