PLATTSBURGH — Two Massena residents were charged with grand larceny for allegedly shoplifting.
Hollie S. Villano, 30, and Robert W. Northrup, 64, were each charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, felony, and six counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.
Villano was further charged possession of burglar’s tools, a misdemeanor.
On March 26 at 12:48 a.m., a Wal-Mart manager told police he saw a woman pushing a cart of merchandise out of the store without paying for it, State Police said.
The manager took note of the license plate number, make and model of the car she got into, police said.
A Malone-based trooper pulled the vehicle over less than two hours later, and Villano and Northrup admitted they had gone on a shoplifting spree, stealing more than $2,000 worth of merchandise from American Eagle Outfitters, the Shoe Depart., Old Navy, Maurice’s, Bath & Bodyworks, Kmart and Wal-Mart, police said.
Most of the stores were not permitted to press charges because of company policy except the Shoe Dept. and Kmart, police said.
Villano and Northrup were both arraigned in Plattsburgh Town Court.
Villano was sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond and Northrup was sent there without bail.
