PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man was charged with burglary Wednesday.
At about 12:40 a.m. State Police arrived at 20 Pear St. in the Town of Plattsburgh to respond to a report of a man trying to break in to a house, State Police said.
Troopers saw Gilbert J. Latour, 28, run out of 21 Hickory St., police said.
Troopers pursued the man on foot and after they caught him, he continued to resist arrest so troopers pepper sprayed so they could take him into custody, police said.
Latour had ripped the screen off the front window of the Pear Street residence in an attempt to get inside, police said.
And he broke into the residence on Hickory Street and was confronted by a resident in the home before jumping through a screen on the porch to escape, police said.
Latour was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony; second-degree attempted burglary, a felony; two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor; two counts of resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor.
He was arraigned in Plattsburgh Town Court and sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond.
He is due back in court today.
