Police Log: Aug. 25, 2013 — Personal-injury accident

BEEKMANTOWN — A Philadelphia man was injured in an accident Friday involving two cars and a moose.

Shortly before 8:38 p.m., Benjamin J. Monette, 38, was driving southbound on Interstate 87 when he hit a moose that police believe was crossing the road, said Plattsburgh-based State Police.

The Volvo V70 first struck the moose’s legs, then it rolled up the windshield, over the roof and off the back of the vehicle, police said.

Then a vehicle that had been traveling behind Monette’s struck the moose, with the vehicle forced up over the animal, police said.

Driving that vehicle was Sharifur Rahman, 40, of Laval, Quebec.

The moose was dead by the time troopers arrived at the accident site, police said.

Its carcass was removed by the Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Conservation was notified of the accident, police said.

There was extensive damage to the roof of Monette’s car and the undercarriage of Rahman’s, which is consistent with what they believe happened, police said.

Monette was taken to CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after he complained of a hand injury, police said.

The two other passengers in Monette’s vehicle were not injured and Rahman was also not injured, police said.

No tickets were issued.
