Fire snuffed at Town of Clinton highway garage

CLINTON — A fire at the Town of Clinton highway garage was put out in less than a half hour on Friday night, according to scanner reports.

No officials were available by deadline to describe how much damage had occurred or how the blaze started.

The Churubusco Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the facility at 576 Route 189 in the Town of Clinton a few minutes after 6:30 p.m.

At 6:56 p.m., a radio report said: “The fire is out.”

Fire investigators were called to the site of the blaze to confer with Churubusco Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Perreault.

They were expected to remain there for at least a few hours, according to a person who answered the phone at the fire station.

Ellenburg Depot Volunteer Fire Department joined Churubusco to fight the fire, and Dannemora Volunteer Fire Department stood by Ellenburg Depot’s station, according to Clinton County Dispatch.

Mutual aid requests to Ellenburg Center and Chateaugay fire departments were canceled, County Dispatch said.
