PLATTSBURGH — A Beacon, N.Y., man was charged with drug possession and sale and served with a federal warrant Thursday.
Tariq Brown, 31, was arrested Thursday afternoon by the Adirondack Drug Task Force after a lengthy investigation, Plattsburgh City Police Lt. Scott Beebie said.
Brown was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies.
When City Police Officers were processing Brown after his arrest, they discovered he had provided them with a false name, Beebie said.
After confirming Brown’s identity, police found that he was wanted on a federal parole violation warrant, Beebie said.
That warrant was served at the time of Brown’s processing, he said.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be pending.
Brown was arraigned before Judge Kevin Ryan in Clinton County Court and he was sent to Clinton County Jail.
He was recently transferred to Albany and is in the custody of federal law enforcement officials there, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.
The Clinton County Supreme Court did not have a future court date for Brown.
